Deforestation - Essay for Biology

DEFORESTATION

     

Trees are one of the most important things of the planet we live in. Trees are really important to the environment, animals, and of course for us, humans. But do you know, according to some data, more than 50 percent of the tree cover has disappeared because of human activity. Do you ever heard the word “Deforestation”? What do you think Deforestation is? Well, Deforestation in Bahasa Indonesia is “Penebangan Hutan”. In simple definition, Deforestation would be removing trees from forests or rainforests and usually done by logging or burning down the trees, to change the use of land or etc.

As we can see, deforestation is due to many reasons. Most common reasons are like to grow crops, Like example, farmers burn down the trees to use the land for farming. Another example is the used for fuels, and the used for Urban and construction purpose. Like cutting down the trees for lumber that is used for building materials, furniture or paper products. Forest also cleared in order to make a new place to live.

There’s many impact of Deforestation to the environment. Deforestation is the contributor of Global Warming. Trees and other plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during the process of photosyntesis and release oxygen back into the atmosphere during normal respiration. But because the trees been cutted down, the number of Carbon Dioxide is getting higher, and it affects the atmosphere. Another example is erosion of soil. When forest areas were cleared, it results in exposing the soil to the sun, making it very dry and eventually, infertile, due to volatile nutrients such as nitrogen being lost. In addition, when there is rainfall, it washes away the rest of the nutrients, which flow with the rainwater into waterways. Deforestation also causes Destruction of Animal Habitats, Loss of Biodiversity, Flood and Drought, and climate change.

What the sollutions of this problems? We could do reforestation. Grow more trees. Also, cutting of trees should be checked.  it should be old and dead trees which are going to collapse to be cut, while the younger ones should be allowed to grow. We could spread awareness, do recycle and folow crop rotation.
